What is it?
The m3 desktop uploader is a new utility for the Microsoft® Windows platform that will enable our customers to connect to their m3 account without having to open our web site. To use it, you will need to be running Microsoft® Windows XP or later. We like to keep things as simple as possible, so our installer can be launched directly from our web site, and any prerequisites will automatically be downloaded and applied on your behalf. If you’re running Vista, that probably means you don’t need to download anything else, and the Desktop Uploader is a tiny download of around ~300 KB.
Cool. Why do I need it?
Sometimes, it’s just not convenient to open your browser, and start uploading files. For one thing, HTTP was not designed to allow you to upload the biggest files, and although we’ve done everyhing we can to help you achieve this without installing any software, we can offer you a better, more seamless experience with the Desktop Uploader because it is not subject to the same file size and transfer time limits as those we have to impose on the m3 web interface.
How does it work?
The Desktop Uploader sits in your system tray, silently, until you want to upload some files. With the Desktop Uploader, you can upload as many files as you like in one attempt, and they can be as big as you like – that’s right, no file size limits. A great feature is that the upload happens in the background, and you just get a polite notification when the upload has completed. It won’t interrupt your work.
When can I get it?
The Desktop Uploader was released on 30th January 2009 and is available for all registered users of our service to download, free of charge. There is a link to download it from our ‘Upload’ page, or you can click http://m3.mydeo.com/business/downloads/DesktopConnector.aspx to download it directly (note: you will be asked to sign in if you have not done so already).
So did you just leave out cross platforming?
Customers on non-Windows based systems can use our full-featured website to upload content. At this time we have no plans to offer our desktop connector software on other platforms. Windows customers account for about 90% of our customer base.
Mydeo has a policy of responding to our customers’ suggestions – we build what our customers tell us they need. Cross platform software just isn’t something that comes up very often! We will keep listening and if that changes we will of course look to offer multi-platform support.
